AI credits measure the work completed by Enterpret Agent. This guide explains how credits are used, which balances apply, how to manage usage, and what happens when credits run out.
How AI credits work
Enterpret uses two types of included credits, plus purchased top-up credits:
Personal credits: Each user receives a monthly allowance for their Agent Sessions and personally owned Automations. Personal credits refresh each calendar month, and unused credits do not roll over.
Organization credits: Your organization has a shared pool of credits for the subscription term. Eligible personal usage can draw from this pool. Included organization credits refresh at the start of each new subscription term, and unused credits do not roll over.
Purchased top-up credits: Top-ups are added to the organization pool and used before included organization credits. They do not refresh and roll over while your Enterpret subscription continues.
For personally owned work, credits are used in this order:
Personal credits
Organization credits, including purchased top-up credits
Credit usage depends on the work the Agent completes. Two similar requests may use different amounts of credits because their scope, source data, context, tools, output depth, or number of steps may differ.
Sessions and turns
An Agent Session is an interactive thread of work and may contain multiple turns.
An Automation session is one execution of an Automation and may also contain multiple turns.
A turn is a discrete step of completed Agent work within a Session.
The total credits used by an Enterpret Agent Session or Automation session reflect the completed work across all of its turns. A Session or turn is not a fixed number of credits.
What uses credits
Credits are charged for completed Agent work:
Activity | Credit treatment |
A completed turn within an Agent Session or Automation session | Uses credits based on the work completed |
A completed personally owned Automation session | Uses personal credits first, followed by eligible organization credits |
Agent work launched by a Signal or Escalation | The Agent work uses credits; detecting the trigger itself does not |
Accessing Enterpret through MCP | Does not use credits today |
Agent Sessions or Automations owned by an Enterpret employee, such as your CSM | Not billable and does not deduct from your credit balances |
Failed, cancelled, and retried work
If an Agent error prevents a result from completing, the failed attempt is not charged.
If you cancel work before completion, you are charged for the turn.
If an automatic retry succeeds after a failed attempt, only the completed result is charged.
Completed work is charged even if the result does not meet your expectations. Contact your CSM or Enterpret Support if you believe usage was recorded incorrectly.
Work performed by Enterpret employees
Agent Sessions and Automations owned by Enterpret employees—such as a CSM configuring, testing, or operating a workflow in your Enterpret instance—are not billable to your organization. This work does not reduce a user’s personal credits or the organization credit pool.
Adding credits
Only an Owner can purchase top-up credits. Admins and Users cannot purchase them.
Top-ups are invoiced by calendar quarter, separately from your main contract invoice. The invoice includes the purchase date and the purchasing Owner’s email address.
Purchased credits are added to the organization pool, used before included organization credits, and roll over indefinitely while your Enterpret subscription continues.
There is no automatic top-up. An Owner must choose to purchase additional credits when they are needed.
Roles and permissions
Action | Owner | Admin | User |
View personal usage | Yes | Yes | Yes |
View organization and user usage for the current Enterpret organization | Yes | Yes | No |
Set or change a user-level credit limit | Yes | Yes | No |
Purchase top-up credits | Yes | No | No |
Manage Owners | Yes | No | No |
Manage users and Agent settings | Yes | Yes | No |
Owners have all Admin permissions and can purchase top-up credits and manage organization ownership.
Admins can manage users, Agent settings, and user-level credit limits, but cannot purchase credits or make themselves an Owner.
Users can review their own usage and limits.
User-level credit limits
Owners and Admins can set a monthly credit limit for an individual user. The limit applies across that user’s organization-funded usage.
If no user-level limit is set, eligible work automatically draws from the organization pool after the user’s personal credits are exhausted. If a user-level limit is set, the user’s Agent Sessions and personally owned Automations stop when that limit is reached, even if organization credits remain.
Example: For any user, personal credits are used first. Eligible usage then draws from the organization pool until the user reaches the monthly limit. The user’s affected Agent work stops at that limit unless an Owner or Admin raises it.
Expiration and rollover
Credit type | Reset or expiration | Rollover |
Personal credits | Reset each calendar month | Unused credits do not roll over |
Included organization credits | Reset annually based on your subscription term | Unused credits do not roll over |
Purchased top-up credits | Remain available while your subscription continues | Roll over indefinitely across renewed subscription terms |
What happens when credits run out
Enterpret alerts users and Owners as they approach their applicable limits. We do not automatically add credits or allow an automatic overage.
A user exhausts personal credits
If the user does not have a user-level limit, eligible work automatically begins using available organization credits.
A user reaches a user-level limit
That user’s Agent Sessions and personally owned Automations stop, even when organization credits remain. An Owner or Admin can raise the limit, or the user can wait for the monthly reset.
The organization exhausts its credits
Users can still use their personal credits for Agent Sessions and Automations.
Owners are notified and can add credits. Users can retrigger any affected work after organization credits become available.
Estimated credit usage
These estimates are planning guides, not fixed credit amounts. Actual usage varies with the work completed and may change as Enterpret improves Agent efficiency.
Agent Session examples
Example | Sample request | Estimated credits |
Simple, focused query about one topic, account, source, or time period | “What are the top billing complaints this month?” | 1–50 |
Complex, multi-step query spanning multiple periods, segments, sources, or connected tools | “Compare complaint drivers by plan, enrich the affected accounts, and recommend next steps.” | 50–250+ |
A Session may include several follow-up turns. Each completed turn contributes to the Session’s total credit usage, so a longer investigation can use more credits than its initial request suggests.
Agent Automation examples
Example use case | What it does | Typical credits per session | Cadence assumed for monthly estimate | Estimated monthly credits |
Release Health | Compares feedback after a release with a pre-release baseline to flag regressions, emerging friction, and affected customer segments. | 125 | 4 sessions/month (once per week) | 500 |
Product Quality | Detects recurring defects, groups supporting evidence, and helps create evidence-rich tickets for Product and Engineering. | 40 | 16 sessions/month (4 times per week) | 640 |
Help Center Gaps and Deflection | Finds recurring customer questions that are missing or poorly covered in existing content, then prioritizes the editorial backlog. | 150 | 4 sessions/month (once per week) | 600 |
Risk and Fraud Intelligence | Monitors feedback for defined risk signals, classifies their severity, and routes findings to the appropriate response owner. | 70 | 20 sessions/month (once every weekday) | 1,400 |
Support Performance | Combines support quality, CSAT, and QA signals to identify recurring service issues and coaching opportunities. | 120 | 16 sessions/month (4 times per week) | 1,950 |
Customer Escalations | Identifies at-risk customers, summarizes the evidence, and routes a prioritized intervention queue to the right team. | 30 | 100 sessions/month (5 times per weekday) | 3,000 |
An Automation session may contain multiple turns as the Agent gathers evidence, analyzes it, and produces or routes an output. The per-session estimate reflects the completed work across those turns. Each monthly estimate uses a simple four-week planning month: multiply the typical credits per session by the cadence shown, then round up to the nearest 50 credits. For example, Release Health is 125 credits × 4 monthly sessions = 500 credits. These cadences are planning assumptions, not required schedules; actual monthly usage scales with how often your Automation sessions run.
You can reduce unnecessary usage by narrowing a task’s scope, choosing an intentional Automation cadence, selecting a lower-cost model when appropriate, reviewing early sessions, pausing Automations you no longer need, and avoiding unnecessary retries or regeneration.

Frequently asked questions
When do AI credits reset?
Personal credits reset every calendar month. Included organization credits reset annually according to your organization’s subscription term.
Do AI credits roll over?
Unused personal credits and included organization credits do not roll over. Purchased top-up credits roll over indefinitely while your Enterpret subscription continues.
Can I see how many credits a request will use before I run it?
No. Credit usage depends on the work the Agent completes, including the request’s scope, context, tools, source data, and output depth. Use the estimates in this guide to plan and review actual usage after the work completes.
Can I choose a model to manage credit usage?
Yes. When model selection is available for an Agent Session or Automation, you can choose from the models enabled for your organization. Models have different credit requirements, so selecting a lower-cost model can help reduce credit usage for routine work. More complex research or multi-step tasks may benefit from a more capable model. The final credit amount still depends on the work completed, not only on the model selected.
Is one Agent Session or Automation session equal to one credit?
No. A Session or Automation session may contain multiple turns, and each turn can require a different amount of work. Credits reflect the completed work across all turns, so usage varies by task and may vary between sessions of the same Automation.
Which credits are used first?
Personally owned work uses personal credits first, followed by purchased top-up credits and then included organization credits. A user-level limit can prevent a user from drawing further from the organization pool. Shared Automations use purchased top-up credits before included organization credits.
Can an Admin purchase top-up credits?
No. Only an Owner can purchase top-up credits. Both Owners and Admins can manage user-level limits.
Are credits topped up automatically?
No. Enterpret does not automatically purchase or add credits. An Owner must choose to purchase a top-up.
Are Agent Sessions and Automation sessions run by Enterpret employees charged?
No. Agent work run by Enterpret employees, including CSMs configuring or testing workflows in your instance, is not billable and does not reduce your personal or organization credit balances.
How are top-ups billed?
Top-ups are invoiced by calendar quarter, separately from your main contract invoice. The invoice includes the purchase date and the purchasing Owner’s email address.
Why did the same Automation use a different number of credits this time?
The amount of source data, context, tool use, output depth, and number of steps can change between sessions. Credit usage reflects the work completed during each session.
How do credits work if my organization has multiple Enterpret instances?
Each instance shows its allocated organization credits. Your CSM manages the broader shared pool and can help plan or reallocate credits between instances.
Will credit usage change as AI evolves?
It may. Enterpret may update credit estimates or metering as models, tools, and Agent efficiency evolve. We will communicate material changes by email, Slack, and through your CSM.
Who should I contact about incorrect usage or billing?
Contact your CSM or Enterpret Support over email or Slack. Include your organization, the date and time, the affected user, a link to the Agent Session or Automation, the behavior you expected, and any relevant invoice or purchase reference.
